Default Plethora of Electrical Issues

So the saga of the 1994 Mustang Gt continues...

Issue 1) Driver side power window will not roll up or down. The problem isn't with the motor, I grabbed a new one and it didn't work on the driver's side. Thinking it was the motor again I hooked it up on the passenger side to test it, where it worked perfectly. I checked all the fuses and all the filaments look like they're intact.

Issue 2) The door speakers from my Mach 460 system don't work at all and I don't seem to be getting any low range or bass from the other four speakers. I picked up a rear amp at the junk yard and hooked it up in place of one of the installed amps. I tried swapping the amps around and all kinds of nonsense but there was no improvement.

Issue 3) This one is pretty minor but annoying. The interior lights will come on if I open the passenger side door, but not the driver's side.

EDIT: Issue 4) My instrument gauge illumination died. The signal lights and check engine lights still light up but the tach and speedometer won't. I'm going to check the fuses today if I find time and I'll post back with results.

Any help would be appreciated because I just spent good money on parts intended to fix the problem, only to find they don't do anything.

At the point you're at, it's time to break out the wiring diagram and start chasing wires.

For #3, check the continuity of the driver's side door switch.

I figured chasing wires would be the next step, at least for the power window and the door light. How about the speaker issues though? Same situation?

the windows use a funny wiring system called a 5-wire sytem. the advantage is that the switches do all the work and there are no relays needed, the bad news is that if there is a bad contact anywhere in the system it leads to some funny problems. Pull the switches on the drivers door and check them. There should be a hot wire going to each switch(in the middle if I remember correctly) and make sure that you can get some kind of output on the wires when the switches are pushed. IF you can't get anything out of the switch but have a hot wire in, try cleaning the contacts or replacing the switches.

If the factory radio is still in the car, have you checked fuses? I recomend checking ALL the fuses as it is funny how often a fuse with nothing to do with the problem has blown. IF the factory radio has been replaced you will need to pull the radio out and see how it is wired. PAge 2 of my cardomain page shows how to put a deck into a mach system.

Sounds like the pinswitch in the door has gone bad. You can try cleaning it or replacing it.

By checking the output on the hotwire I assume you mean using a multimeter? I've never used one outside of school and I don't have one but I think one of my buddies does. If I'm getting voltage at the hot wire but not getting voltage at the switch then the switch is blown correct? Otherwise it means I probably have wiring issues?

I have checked all the interior fuses, but not the ones in the engine bay, and none of them are blown, unless its one of the two large silver fuses which I couldn't visually inspect. I no longer have the factory radio, and I'll check how its wired as soon as I get time.

Lastly, where's the pinswitch located?

Thanks for all the help and please bear with me.

you will need a voltmeter or test light in your tool box. Shouldn't be more then $10-20 for a basic one. If you have no output from the switch then I would try cleaning its contacts to the harness before replacing it.

The pinswitch is located inside of the door as part of the latching mechanism. Try squirting some WD40 in the latch and opening and shutting it a few times to see if you can clean it out.

They say a picture is worth a thousand words so here goes...

I checked the wiring on my deck (I didn't do the install, it was free and I figured they know how to install it better than I did) and it doesn't appear to follow your guidelines. For one, I cannot find the hrns. I pulled the wiring out as far as it would come and found nothing. I even followed it with my hand jammed in behind the dash and felt nothing. It honestly looks like they were cut out and just straight wired together.

Also there are two loose wires, an orange one and a grey/blue one. I believe that the orange is just the illumination one, but I don't know whats up with the other one. You can see it pretty clearly in the picture.

Tried WD40ing the latch to clean it out to no effect. Whats the next step?

EDIT: Window problem is fixed, turned out to be the motor after all. One down two to go.

The radio problem is still unresolved and I'm not sure where to go from here. Also, my instrument gauge illumination died last night. The signal lights and check engine lights still light up but the tach and speedometer won't. I'm going to check the fuses today if I find time and I'll post back with results.

The only thing I can find on the grey/blue wire is that it is a left rear speaker + wire.

Ok I checked the fuses and sure enough one of the 20's was blown. I replaced it with a 15 (didn't have a 20 on hand) which blew the instant I tested the illumination. I'm thinking that I have a short in the system somewhere that I have to find. I'll report back if I find it.

Fink: Could the left rear speaker + wire being disconnected cause the issues I'm having?

ttocs: Should I try to rewire my deck the way you have posted on your cardomain? I'd have to find a stock wiring harness but I'm sure that can be accomplished.
