Amp Placement
Hey guys, I was wondering if someone could give me some good suggestions on where to place my amps. The ones that I purchased are the Sony Xplod XM-SD22X and Rockford Fosgate P4004. I have two of the Sony amps but haven't decided if I am going to be using both or just one. I've thought about ordering a rear seat delete kit and maybe mounting it to the plywood seats that replace the regular seats, but I don't know if I want to do that. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Here are the amp dimensions:
Sony Xplod XM-SD22X
15-7/8"W x 2-1/4"H x 11"D
Rockford Fosgate P4004
11"W x 2-7/16"H x 16-3/8"D

somewhere easily accesible because they will proly both blow up
if your box is big enough i know people that just mount them in the side of their sub box. you could also just mount 'em to the floor, you kinda just have to find a spot, every car is different

I was thinking something like this, but this also has a battery relocation kit. Has anybody ever used one of these kits?

If I were you I would build and amp rack that would fit behind the box. Build it to where its at the same angle of the back seats. Cover it in something nice (matching carpet or matchin vinyl), then mount the amps on the side facing the seat. Before covering the rack I would mock it up in the car and mark where the amps are going to mount. Then mark where each wire would be connecting. Drill a hole big enough for the necissary wires to go through. Then cover the rack and just cut an X where the holes are. This will allow you to push the wires through and keep the set up looking clean. Now while no one is sitting in the back you can lay the seats down and have a nice looking amp rack while the amps are getting plenty of air flow to keep them cool.
Just a suggestion. I've done it on two other cars I've owned.

Sorry, I do not have any pics of my old installs. If you measure everything correctly and draw up a good "pattern", once you over the board you shouldnt have to screw it into anything, it should stand up on its own because it will be wedged between the deck and the floor of your trunk. But it wouldnt hurt to make some legs on it. Also, with the enclosure pushed up against it, it will hold fine.
This may give you an idea of what i mean.

Yea, pretty good idea. You have any suggestions for what type of plywood to use, 1/4 in or 1/2 in or just odb? If I'm not mistaken, isn't that area of the trunk rounded off, so I would have to round out the plywood to make it sit flush?
DO NOT USE PLYWOOD. Use 3/4" mdf. Plywood will crack or break very easily and air can escape through plywood. I assume there are going to be a decent amount of curves and things that you will have to cut. My advice would be to get a piece of cardboard that is wide enough and tall enough to fit in there. Then bend and fold the edges to make it fit flush. Once you have it angled right and looking good, trace that onto your board.
