Default Rookie Question

I have the oppurtunity to purchase (2)-12" 450 watt pioneer subs in a box with a 760 watt amp, they were in the car for 4 years, $180. deal or no deal.

4 years could be a lot of useage on the subs depending on how they were played

thats what I was thinking, This is a deal my son is working on, the guy selling these is a college student that my other son knows, Knowing my older son I would lean toward being rather thrashed. Of course the younger one is looking at being able to put some subs in car so trying to explain that to to him is like talking to a wall.

being a newb to this audio thing, what would be a good setup for a teenager trying to get his first real system. something that will last but not cost an arm and a leg.
