Default My 04 Audio project.

Hey guys. I miss having great sound qualiy and imaging, sicne the Mach 460 doesn't quite cut it. Right now, I need help picking speakers. Primarily, size. I understand the factory size is a 6x8, and that isn't going to fly in the aftermarket.

I found these:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...=263602_263622

They are adapter plates to change to a 6 1/2", but was wondering if anyone has used them? Would it be better to go with a smaller 5 1/4" component setup? I am sure many have done this, so I need some advice.

As far as the rest of the system, it is looking like full Alpine right now. A new CDA-117 will probably be my head unit, as it has time correction and a lot of features I am looking for. To power everything, I am looking at a PDX-5. And I am thinking just one sub, 10 or 12".

I am not going crazy here, and want to retain as much trunk as I can. I just want great sounding sound.

Does anyone have any extra Dynomat laying around?

Also, I will soon have availible my iPod (standard audio jack) factory adaptor for the factory head unit. Works amazingly to integrate an audio input.

i have always made mine out of 1/4" mdf but those will work also. IMO do the 6.5" components, bein mach system put tweeters where oem ones were

as far as the pdx5 its a good amp but unless u need the small footpring infinity makes a 5 channel for less that i use in alot of installs and its a great amp. A 12 or 10" sub in a small sealed box paired with some components in the doors and coaxs in the back with an amp will sound awesome

I have always loved Infinity. My home theater is a Denon powered Infinity setup, and honestly it sounds amazing to me. I will have to go online and check out what they have. I used to have a set of Kappa Perfect components and 2 Kappa Perfect 12s in a pre-fab box powered by an Xtant 1001. It hit 149.6db. Not bad for pre-fab. But, I am not looking to do that crazy stuff any more. But what you said is exactly what I want to do.

Well, I checked out the Inifinity and some reviews. I think I am going to stick with the PDX-5. There really are nothing but great reviews on it, and I have personal experience with it myself. It seems to have a bit more power, and I can pretty much hide it anywhere. Plus, I am thinking about all Type-R speakers, so I might as well keep everything Alpine.

BTW, the part number for that adapter I am gonna sell is a PIE FRD03-AUX/S.

IMO the infinity components tend to have a very bright tweeter. check out the polk db or mm components depending on ur budget. you should be able to do it all without breaking the bank

Will the aftermarket tweets fit behind the stock Mach grills?

I am kind of liking the dB series. MM looks nice, but it might be a little more than I want to spend. I have to do more research. My inital searches of Type R vs Polk DB tell me that most prefer Polk audio for it's smoothness.

Db's are a killer speaker at the price I have installed them in alot of cars, IMO you will really like them. Should have no problem getting the tweet behind the stock mach tweeter grill

Yea, I think I am going to go with the Polk db's. They seem to be a more efficient speaker as well, and since the amp puts out 75w x 4 RMS, that seems like it would be a smart option.

Jay, thanks for the advice. I have never heard of that stuff but will definately check it out!
