I agree with the factory amps and door subs not being the greatest. I am building my system one piece at a time as I can. I first added a 12" sub in the trunk which works great except for the bass roll-off at higher volumes. I decided my next step would be to correct the bass roll-off by adding the MTX RE-Q5 as described above. Following that, I hope to replace the Shaker 500 amps followed by replacing the 8" subs in the doors. Hopefully in the end the system will sound pretty good.

I hear you about those factory subs not being so great. I tried running them off of an aftermarket amp, with the coils wired in series, reproducing 80 Hz to 315 Hz. Sadly, even with that narrow of a frequency reproduction band, I came to realize that the Shaker 500 subwoofers sounded like garbage. Doesn't Ford charge something crazy high, like over $250 per 8?
I got the tap for the amp to my 12" sub using a speaker wire output from one of the shaker 500 amps located in the drivers side kick pannel. I ran this into an amp that accepts line level input.
