So as I've stated before, I'm somewhat of a noob when it comes to car audio. I recently installed this: http://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-DEH-20.../dp/B001P77YFQ for the iPod capabilities. I feel that the sound quality is better compared to the stock head unit but I also feel that the speakers might need upgrading. Maybe even an amp/sub?? I had the stock, non-shaker headunit with 4 speakers originally. I'm not looking to do anything right away or spend tons of money on a set up but I thought maybe you guys could give some suggestions.

I like a lot of metal with some select hip hop (the good stuff) if that helps any

you can try adding a sub and taking all the base out of the rest of the speakers while allows them to play the mids and highs that they are made for.

agree, the stock speakers are not too good with bass. if you want the deep base and crisp mids and highs, install an amplifier and subwoofer. and if you want to go even more agressive swap out the factory speakers for sets that have built in tweeters for even better high range

Are there benefits in size? Ex. is it worth getting a 12" over a 10" sub?

sure, diamond audio, hertz, and pheonix gold has some new stuff that looks good to but the budget may push those out of your reach as they are not entry level but what I run.....

I recommend a four channel amp and four good 6x8's first then if you want more bass go with a sub.

that sub and amp would be perfect together as they are both rated at 4 ohms. By doing that you will be able to turn the bass down on the factory speakers and even take all the bass out with cross-overs if you want. AFter that if you still want it louder check out new speakers, then an amp for them when/if you still want more.

I have not heard that particular sub nor amp. I have owned bazooka tubes back in the day and jvc makes good stuff but you still could do better. I am the guy that will help install it but to pick out equipmetn I really recomend you go and listen to as many speakers and systems as you can to see what sounds good to you. Sound is subjective and different for everyone....
