Upgrading the Shaker 500
Just getting ready to upgrade the shaker 500 this summer. Going with a alpine cda 117 for the head unit, some component infinity speakers 90 rms each and a single kicker cvt 10 for the trunk, which is on its way already. Also going with an amp from kicker to power it all.
First question:
Does sub box shape matter? Im trying to put it on that ledge right behind the rear seats, the ledge is flat in the center for about 17" then it slopes down on each side for a few inches then flattens out for probably 6-8". A pre-fabricated box would hang over the ledge on each side to meet the space requirements for the sub, as well as leave me a hand full of inches on each side of the box. My plan is to make my own box that will go all the way to one side of that ledge, leaving me about one full side of that ledge if I need to fold the seats down for anything. That means fiberglassing over that flat-downslope-flat area so get a base that fits it snug. Will that odd shape affect sound quality at all?
Any thoughts on this sub box idea, as well as the whole upgrade would be appreciated. The reason I'm not going with the kicker sub already made for our cars is I don't want to take up that good trunk space. As I look at it that ledge is for the most part useless.
If this fiberglassing goes well, it could lead to me getting back to my DIY hood scoop project for my spare hood.(but in the mean time the hood is for sale.)

I don't think the shape will affect it too much as long as you maintain the right air space needed for that sub. But only to a point..It really depends on how extreme this "odd shape" is lol. If you just have to angle the sides or back a bit, that shouldn't be an issue at all.
Ever thought of a side mount instead? Would be easier.
