Ok well went through amazons return thing and they've already shipped me a new HU! So that was way easier than I thought. And wayne yea I didn't hear a pop or smoke or anything, but when the stereo shop tested it out it smelt like smoke so go figure. And I checked the fuse last night so go figure

If you plan to attempt this again yourself, for the specialized items might I suggest pretending it´s a centrefold model and you´re the photographer taking detailed pics of before, during, and after the stripping? Just so we can ¨read the articles¨ better? As in seeing the wire leads being jumped and the actual #´s on the relay/regulator for what is wired to what.

And I´d just do the resistor instead, if it kentucky-fried from your wiring that and the relay are the only 2 things that aren´t really just matching the leads with the color = this charts.

The shaker unit you put back in and it works, right?

Won´t fry anything, but that would suck. Wire it right, but doesn´t work because of this, then take it in to the electronics store and then they fry it. Irony there.

As pentavolvo states, check this at some point as well if you didn´t already:
For that metra harness, Yellow should always have 12v, Red should have 12v with key at ACC and IGN positions.

The ¨install shop¨ didn´t figure out this would be needed after it blows your eardrums when they tested it? Nice.

So your saying your going to have to pull it out, and redo wiring after paying them to install it? I´m just going to go with:

mmm, yeah..
