Default Possible New System

My good friend has a system for sale, and I know nothing about systems, besides the fact that I want one. He is going to sale it to me for $300.
Its 2 Alpine type Rs in a sealed box and a Kicker ZX 750.1. I just want it for rock so is this too large? And is this a good deal? He is also going to install it for me.

From a brand new perspective? Total cost would be closer to $500 for that.

There´s such a thing as too large? Yes, innuendo intended. This will be pushing those R´s at 375watts since the speakers are 4ohms so the overkill will be reduced.

I think you´ll likely be fine. Although, really, if this is a shaker system, I´d be more inclined to just do the usual 8´ kicker replacements in the doors with a closely matched wattage amp for the first audio hitting upgrade.

you would rather have a free air 8 then a real woofer in a box? Thats funny.

Space is a premium commodity to come by for most any car. Jamming 2 12´ subs with an enclosure taking up most of the trunk isn´t practical for many where this is the only car you have (or have access to), including myself.

If you think that´s hysterical..

they have boxes on ebay that sit against your back seats and dont take up much room at all.

Actually, if I were to run the Shaker 500 without a trunk sub, I'd probably choose the Pioneer shallow mount 8s over the Kicker's. I've listened to vehicles with both, and I was way more impressed with the Pioneer's bass response. Then again, the Mustang with the Pioneers had an aperiodic membrane whereas the Mustang with the Kickers did not.

Might have to give those a go down the road. Nice.

I have to agree with you on this one. i have a Single 12" with a port and that takes up a full half of the trunk, the stang trunks are odd shaped lol but if you love car audio like me. its worth it :P

didn't buy my stang to fit stuff in the trunk, other the audio gear personally. A good sub in an enclosure will always sound better then a free air 8, or even one in an enclosure, always. How do I know, I just pulled my last stereo consisting of 4 8" subs in a custom box. 8s are ok but they are just not able to get the low notes in alot of music. They are ok on rock, but that is about it. Any other type of music needs a good sized sub IMO as well as an enclosure. Anything else is just settling for what you can get and why do that with as much as you listen to your stereo?

I'll have to respectfully disagree with you on the 8s thing. Thus far, I've run the Digital Designs 1508, Sundown SA-8, and the True Bass Ultra 8 in my various vehicles, and no one ever believed me when I said I was using an 8" sub... Until I showed them that is. Don't get me wrong, if I was the type of person into hip-hop, I'd probably rather a 12 or a 15, but my 8s have had enough output to keep me satisfied with Rock, Metal, Dubstep, Drum and Bass, and Electro-house.

In fact, I am about to replace my 13w6v2 Stealthbox with a pair of SA-8s just to play around with SPL. According to the modeling software, the SA-8s will have an advantage down to about 25 Hz or so. I'll see how that pans out in real life soon enough. Output wise, I am expecting more from the 8s, but I will probably go back to the Stealthbox at a later point in time because that's my old trusty. I just wanted to do something different for the time being.
