NEED HELP!
hey guys!
I've recently obtained my friends (fairly new) system from their car which they do not want anymore. It is a kicker 300 amp, and a 12 in kicker sub. It came with all necessary chords.
I have a 2003 Mustang, and my only question is. what the f*** do i do?!?! no idea what to do, and I really do not want to spend 100 to get this thing installed when i got all the parts for free.
help!

Really, without more information, you won´t get much. I think you can find most of the info you seek with a search, but you will want to specify what if any specially named factory system is used (Mach, stock system, etc).
And of course pray if an after-market head-unit and/or speakers are installed, they were done by someone knowledgeable. A.k.a. non-macguyver'd.
I know very little of the previous generation mustang's myself, so I would be of little help beyond knowing they use the 24pin main connector for the head-unit wiring harness. Should ttocs, or someone with more knowledge of general installs, and the previous generation mustangs not chime in, and/or you can´t find what you seek in a search of this forum, then the12volt.com should be of considerable help giving you some primers and wiring diagrams.
You say it came with all the necessary cords, but likely the ends of many will need to be done for your install, some may not be long enough, etc..
Regardless, you won't do this for free. You will need good gauge wiring run to the battery, taps for it, to a ground point where you plan to mount the amp, and wiring to tap the left and right outputs somewhere, unless you have an after-market head-unit with RCA line-level outs, in which case you'll need RCA cable.
Really, if you've not done this before, ask your nerd/geek/tech friend to install this for you and pay for beer/pizza. Still be cheaper then an install shop, in most instances done better as they'll actually care about doing it right, as well as having the knowledge to do so.

It's not too hard to install. Are u on a stock head unit or aftermarket? The hardest part is running the power cable from the battery to the trunk. U need a good ground connection in the trunk. U have to also run the audio components cords and auxillary power cord to the trunk from head unit (if ur headunit has the inputs for them). If it doesn't you need a hi/Lo pass converter. A great website for audio and electrical questions is the12volt.com that is a great reference site and will assist wit wiring questions. As far as running the power cable maybe a few members will chime in on here and post pics of how they ran it. On my sn95 I ran my cord thru the fender and under the plastic door step jam things. I had a 0/1 guage wire which is pretty thick. Feel free to pm me if you need further. Total installation for a first timer that's not familiar with audio is around 4 to 5 hrs but it can b easily done much much quicker if u plan out how you will run things and def check out the12volt.com . It helped me thru many wiring issues and also has veh color codes for aftermarket wiring needs.
