Default new speakers shut off

i have a 2002 gt coupe, with the mach 460 system. i recently installed a set of blaupunkt speakers front and rear. nothing fancy, just 50 watts rms. they sound great, but my problem is if i turn it up too high on a hot day they will cut out for a few seconds then stutter back on then cut off again, etc. i bought them off crutchfield and they said "okay great no problems" and the amps are rated at 43.5 watts rms, so i don't understand what could be causing this. i read here in one of the forums that the mustang uses a 2 ohm setup? in the 460. is this true and is it relevant to my problem. if neccessary i am willing to replace the amps with some nicer units, but everywhere i read it says DON'T DO IT that if i'm gonna go there i need to replace the head unit too. i really don't want to do that. call me a weirdo, but i like the stock head unit. any help is appreciated. i'm not a total noob, but pretty close, so if possible use simple words.

I dont know about the 2 ohm amps i mean they could be. Sounds like to me that the amps are cutting of due to thermal reasons. possibly due to clipping. Is there any distortion just prior to them shutting off, or is everything fine?

nah no distortion or anything. just off and on and off and on. also what i read wasn't real clear, but it implied that the whole system was set up for 2 ohms
