Default Electrical question

not sure if this is the right section, but it did say everyone has an electrical mod.

I have some super bright lights that I want to hook up in my trunk (not real happy with the single light) They are 12V lights used for dome lights in a semi trailer. Does anyone know if it is safe to tie in multiple lights to the trunk light? I have done it before on my other cars, additional lights and such. this is the newest and best car I have owned (2005 mustang gt) and I dont want to fry anything

That would depend on the extra draw (amps) from the lights you plan to use on the circuit.

This should let you find the rating. Otherwise, the easiest way would be to use the circuit, but on a relay, running a new line for the lights to actually be powered by.

should not be an issue, leds would draw less current and not be a problem not sure how big of a light you are mounting.

I dont see where he said LED's ? If you are worried about it wire it right and use a relay and run a 10 gauge wire back to the lights. Then you have all the power you need. Relays run about $5.00 and about the same for the wire.

ok, welcome to the forum I guess.

I am not sure where you think he said relays and 10 awg wire either. I was making a suggestion on the leds just like you were on the extra wire and relays. Of course now the labor of running that wire from the battery all the way to the trunk, plus the price of the wire and relay, minus the current saving ability of the LEDS again makes me suggest maybe looking into leds for the lighting he needs. They are not that much more expensive now and will save him lots of time from running wires from front to back.

I should have specified more on the lights I guess, sorry about that. They are in fact leds. I believe each light has 30 to 50 leds. I already installed one and I am debating on more. I will post pics after it gets dark. I think one will do fine. I ended up wiring it into the trunk light.
