Default TUTORIAL: Replace Mach 460 CD Player

This is for install on a DOUBLE - DIN to replace the Mach 460 factory stereo / CD Player. What you need for the Mach460 Mustang:

1. 12 volt to 5 volt converter - http://www.crutchfield.com/p_120AFDI...V.html?tp=2977 "Metra AFDI-5V 12V-5V Converter for Ford/Linc/Merc Amp"
2. Wire Harness set http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1207055...s.html?tp=2977
3. Dash Kit http://www.crutchfield.com/p_1209550...t.html?tp=3121

STEP 1. Wire it all up

Your 12v to 5v converter will connect to the amp on/off wires to the converters Blue/Red wire. The converters ground gets added to the main ground. The Converters Blue/White wire matches the harness Blue White wire.

STEP 2. Take your dash center piece out and old Stereo out. It simply pops out and the stereo is held in with two bolts, you'll need a socket and ratchet.

STEP 3.Take your Dash Kit and assemble it, if needed. Its snaps into place to look like this-

Now slide that frame into the Stereo and bolt it on from the side.

STEP 3a

THIS IS THE HARD PART (relatively speaking)

Depending on what Stereo you get the back of it may or may not have a brace for the back plastic slide rail to fit on. I just took the nut off of my old mach 460 and used a screw that came with my new stuff. I had to skillfully hold the nut with the wrench and carefully place the plastic onto of the stereo and use my screw driver to connect it all

now you can slide your back plastic guide onto your metal rail. line it all up and bolt it in. Put your dash back together and your done.

Crutchfield.com will supply you with the converter, harness and dash kit when you tell them your make and model.

awesome tutorial dude!!...and i am guessing for the single din it is the same? the guy from crutchfield gave me a part number to a 12 to 5v converter from radio shack, but its just the part alone, and doesnt have the wires...i'm gonna order the one you posted tonight. also, to pop out the center console, it just pries out? I'm scared of breaking the clips that hold it in lol

start with the shifter boot area. push the outer area to the inside and you'll feel how it pops out.

this video shows how it pops out

Hmmm. what the converter does it stops the POP sound you get when you turn the radio on and too much power goes to the amps. I know they changed something in 2001 but i dont know what.

so looking at my stuff now i got:

Pioneer DEH-4400HD
Ford Wire Harness 120705510

My problem is that that after market wiring harness is not color coded to the pioneer CD harness (that plugs in back of the radio)...the instructions are garbage...how do i know which wires to connect...i know it's by function but the instructions are not clear whatsoever...this is confusing haha

on my instructions it told me which wire did what. but what you should have is the new harness color coded and the new CD players harness color coded. Ive NEVER seen or heard of a wire harness thats not color coded. If its not then you'll have to look up each individual wire via the harness diagram. that sucks but it can be done.

what year mustang? I can take a picture of my harness manual for you. its pretty straight forward.
