Default Sync update

I have been having problems with my iphone auto start streaming music even though auto start is turned off in sync. I want to install the latest update which is AR3T-14D544-AE Gen1 - V3.1 but on the sync my ride website it's says I have to take it to the dealer. Is there anyway I can do it myself rather than paying them what is probably an outrageous amount of money?

if it's telling you to take it to the dealer, then there probably needs to be an update for the VMCU software which can't be done over USB.

I also read after making this post something about the head unit overheating, not sure what that'd all about. I'll get the dealer to do it at my next service

there's two "parts" to Sync. the first part is the "user" part (the CCPU) which handles all of the voice recognition, audio, Bluetooth, etc. This is the part which can be updated via USB.

the second is the "vehicle" part (the VMCU) which talks to the rest of the car. it can't be updated over USB, it has to be done over the OBD connector by someone with the proper tools.

since your car is older, there probably was a fix to the "vehicle" part which has to be updated before you can apply any newer "user" updates. Her car probably was built with the later software already in place.
