Default mach 460 question

i have a 96 mustang convertable.. im gona upgrade my speakers and i have a few questions.. i dont think i can get spakers to replace the top front ones.. have any of you changed these? I also found 2 amps that i guess came stock with this mach 460 system.. when i upgrade my speakers.. should i take those amps out and put new ones there? Im gona have a seperate amp for my subs.. What have you guys done with your stock amps? If you got rid of them, what amps did you put in place? Thanks for any help/advice you can give me.

the 460 system is a bitch.
If you want to put your own stuff in there then you basically need to take out all the mach stuff and replace it with your own. You can't use the mach amps with your own deck, you havt to completely bypass them and reqwire the speakers strait to the deck or amp.
So, plan on just rewiring the whole thing, the local stereo shops have had expiriance with them and they can tell you the cost.
Also yes, you can put after-market tweeters in the upper door. I'm putting Focal componits in my doors right there in the stock placements.
You can also do a search on here this topic has been covered.
Hope that helped.

Incorrect. There is a wiring harness for that year that allows utilization of factory amps upon installation of aftermarkey head unit.

You can replace the factory mach speakers with any speakers you want. Not don't try and replace the 460 amps. You can "buy" the corner speakers you'll have to remove them, take them apart, and replace the speakers. What kind of money are you wanting to spend on just the speakers? If you want clean sounding speakers and are on the short end for cash, Infinity or MTX. Alpines aren't bad either but the Infinity's and MTX are going to be a better bang for the buck. Nufan is right unless you simply want to replace the deck and/or the speakers, you might as well rip out every part of the 460 system and replace it with your own. PJ is also right, theres a peripheral piece that you can connect when you replace the deck that will still allow your 460 to function correctly with your aftermarket head unit.

Any componite speaker set(fro the most part) will allow you to put the tweeters were the Mach one are. just a matter of taking ou the old tweeters and putting in the new ones.If they ar differant sizes you might need to make a simple mounting plate. not hard
