Square speakers
Honestly I see no reason to any square speaker except that it has a larger cone surface. It creates pressure points on the surrounds, Kicker I guess designed it well enough to keep it to a minimum. There not that bad I guess I myself don't like them at all. You will never see a square speaker place decent in a SQ sense. Doesn't resonate as good. Full range squares yes I know i've heard of them exist from who I have no idea, yes the flopped and didn't catch on because there wasn't a noticeable difference nor a advantage to have them because most cars don't come with a sqaure hole, and people dont like doing tons of custom work. Do whatever you want to with your system though, get generic brands get goofy designs. You'll just be one more person that has the same product that everyone else does. By the way there 6x8 or 5x7. Yeah some componets will sound whole lot better.
Before I knew much about car audio I went to a shop that carries Kicker, the guy hyped them up a ton and told me to try and compare them to a round 12" in the same price and I'll never find anything loud. And you couldn't simply because they have a larger cone surface. it's like comparing a round 12" to a round 15" they'll have the same magnet size, same motor structure but they have the displacement advantage. Thats it, SQ like I said you'll never see a sqaure that sounds as good as a round.
i think the squares sound great. i won numerous sound competitions with 2 kicker 15 l7s... awesome bass, and in a vented box the quality is great. i had 2 12s b4 that.. those sounded awesome too. kicker is the only square i'd go with, and get down to 8" subs... but for anything else that bass square speakers just wont do it
Your posts made me remember something I've wondered and I cant figure it out. Out, some listings of speakers will say 5x7/6x8 or more lengthy, 5x7 and 6x8 will fit too. Ok, if you have a 5x7 speaker and a 6x8 speaker, how are they the same and going to fit in the same hole? Thats an inch in each direction. Maybe I'm stupid but it sounds like a legit question to me....

Your statement that two SQUARE KICKER 15s had great sound quality, to me, reads "I have no idea what good sound quality is, and I will probably never know. I should probably never give advice about car audio ever again."

Comparing speakers to a V6 mustang running 10's doesnt justify anything. There aren't enough pieces to a sub nor anything you can "add-on" to a subwoofer to make it perform better other than an enclosure. Theres not near as many ways to "beef-up" subs as there is a complete car. And maybe you haven't heard a woofer as good sounding as pj. So maybe your wrong this time.
