Default Sync Module Replacement Question

Hello, I tried disconnecting/reconnecting battery and also the pulling fuse method, but can't get my sync module to talk to my radio. Neither phone buttons work, aux doesn't work, and sync options are missing from the menu.

My car is a 2014 Mustang GT Premium with sync but without sat nav.

My question is - If I go to a junk yard, can I just replace the Sync module with another of the same part # or would I have to replace radio with the sync module (come in pairs)?

if you don't have navigation, then the SYNC module is a black box separate from the radio. it's in the dash, above the glove box.
