Default Audio system help

Alright I have a '94 GT with the Mach 460. It doesnt have the CD player, only the tape deck. I want to upgrade the system all around, and significantly improve the bass. However I dont really know anything about car audio so I'm looking for a little help. I'm on a budget, but I'll have some Christmas money to work with. What should I be looking at? Thanks.

well first of all you need to figure out your budget and what your going to have your stereo system do. SQ SQL SPL, sq means it sounds really good, SQL sounds really good but gets loud, and spl means it just gets loud. and do you use your trunk and do you have passengers that ride in the rear. and what are you wanting to replace? Everything?

Just from you saying that you want to upgrade everything and you want much more bass and i assume and recommend keeping it SQL based. You'll be looking at about $2500 with installation. Now did you think thats what you'd hear? If that sounds insane then we need more info and let us know what is most important to you. We'll throw out some suggestions.

$2500 is way to much... I'm on a high school budget. I never use the trunk, and I want it to get real loud but I don't want it to sound awful. I can't lose the back seats though. Basically upgrading the head unit and bass is most important, and I want it to be alot louder. thanks alot for you help

just get a really nice deck for around that 350 range and get an amp kit and run the wires and hook up the deck then when you save more get a sub(s) and an amp and box later on.

alright well following your advice I looked at some decks - I want one that can play MP3 cds, and I'm looking at three- Kenwood, JVC, and Alpine. The first two are $300 and the Alpine is a little cheaper. I kind of like the Kenwood, but which one do you think is the best?

kenwoods suck now so i wouldnt get one of those and if you dont need/want a dvd player id get this JVC instead of the oneyou had picked out http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1099389601261

and for the alpine i feel they have gone down in quality ever since best buy got them and i have never liked them because they was something always better then them so id go with the JVC they are very nice decks.

Alright thanks for the advice - I figure I'm going to need to buy a new wiring harness thing for it - anything else I'll need for now or I should get? And you mentioned amp kits - what should I look for there? sorry for all these questions
