Default specific instructions for hardwiring??

I have an 06 stang, and i have decided i want to hardwire my radar detector to my car, can anyone give me some advice on how this can be done?? the more specific the better. I will probably hard wire my playstation too if the radar detector works ok.

thanks

By hardwiring a radar detector, I assume you mean using a power supply other than the 12V. You pretty much need to find something that's hot. Just wire it to back of the 12V. Find the hot and the ground and wire accordingly. There're a lot of other options, but I've never had a problem using the 12V...your 12V will still work too.

For the ps2, you're gonna need a power inverter. You can hardwire the power inverter the same way, but I don't know of a way to get around the power inverter...not sayin there absolutely isn't a way to do it, but I don't know of one and always used a power inverter.

WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IS TAKE YOUR CIGARETTE PLUG FROM YOUR RADAR AND SOLDER A NEGATIVE WIRE TO ONE OF THE SIDE CONNECTORS AND THEN SOLDER O POSSITIVE WIRE TO THE TIP OF THE PLUG AND THEN TAPE THE WHOLE THING UP TO KEEP IT FROM GROUNDING OUT AND THEN TAKE THE OTHER END OF YOUR WIRES THAT YOU JUST SOLDERED AND GET BEHIND YOUR CIGARETTE LIGHTER IN YOUR CAR AND APPLY THE GROUND TO THE GROUND OWIRE OF THE PLUG AND POWER WIRE TO THE POWER WIRE OF THE PLUG ...... HIDE ALL THE WIRING BUTTON IT ALL UP AND LEAVE THE OTHER END OF YOUR POWER WIRE FOR YOUR RADAR DETECTOR WHERE YOU CAN REACH IT AND PRESTO .... LET ME KNOW IF YOU HAVE ANY QUESTIONS...

Just cut the damn plug off of the radar detector and solder/HEAT WRAP the connections.

Secondly, I would NOT recommend hooking the dector up to the cigarette lighter power supply. You will have to manually turn off the damn thing everytime you get out as the cigarette lighter is not switched.

Damn dude...WTF did they teach you a Best Buy training camp?

yeah dont hook it up to the cigarette lighter... run a wire to under your dash where there is a empty fuse hole.. make sure it turns off and on with the car and just use a fuse tap and crimp it on the end of the wire... there is the power.. then just run the ground with the power wire(so it looks uniform) and ground it on some metel.. where ever you feel comfertable!

deont forget that some cigareete lighters turn off when the car is off and unless the wires on the radar detector are color coded you will not know what wire is ground and what wire is power so unless you want to 50/50 and take the chance of frying your radar detector you will want to solder the wires to the radar ciagearette lighter istself and find the proprer voltage supply if the cigarette lighter does not turn off when the car is off

If you hook them up backwards, you will not fry the detector. You will blow the fuse on the lighter circuit. His mustangs lighter socket is not switched.

if the lighter isnt switched than use power from behind your stereo. and until you know the exact internals of the radar itself you dont if you wont fry it , there is a chance you will not fry it but there is also a chance that you will so dont feed this kind of crap to people if yoou dont know what the situation is and abviously you dont so i want to play it safe for this individual . so man dont listen to pj unless you want to break your **** .

The power behind your radio isn't switched either. The ignition switch lead is, but I don't know if I'd run anything off of that...depends on how much power that thing is going to pull.

You may blow a diode with hooking it up backwards, but with that little power, I doubt it.

It should be fairly easy to tell which wires are which upon cracking open the lighter plug itself. I really don't see where the problem is in cutting off the plug.
