its just the way your ears hear it it actually is probaly just as loud on a meter. just leave your windows down or add another sub and i think it should be pretty close tot he same

I've noticed that same thing back when I had my stuff hooked up in my SRT-4. Yeah, i bet on a meter it is just as loud, but can't feel it through the chest cavity near as well. Never understood how that could be possible, always seemed to me that it should be the exact opposite.

i don't know man, my buddy noticed it too we could actually feel a difference with the windows up compared to having them down. i'm going to borrow a meter and find out for sure....this is why you should pay attention in physics class kids

what you are feeling is the pressure that is building up from the sub. there is no where for the air to go when the car is sealed (window up) but when you put the window down the air can move thats why it sounds louder. when whats really happening is it feels lounder!

One of the main factors at play here is cancellation. When your widows are up, there are more surfaces for the sound wave to reflect off of. This reflection will cause wave cancellations and in effect, reduce the amount of bass signal present in the car. Remember that a low hz sound wave is extremely long and needs space to open up fully.

timmy and danbert those were my two other theorys... either i'm getting some cancellation or maybe the increased pressure with the windows up is causing the port to open at a different (most likely lower) frequency.....i don't know, i'll do some research and see what i find

Just crack your windows about an inch or so when driving down the road.
