Beach drive September 12! You up for it?
So I was thinking of doing a beach drive September 12th. Starting and ending location are open for what people want to do/can do. But I thought we should enjoy this nice California weather before its gone. What do you guys want to do???

Sounds good to me! I'd recommend an early morning drive from Santa Monica heading north up the coast highway. Maybe take a canyon drive on the way back through Mulholland to Topanga Canyon. But PCH heading north seems like an enjoyable drive...
The Shelby show is at the Santa Monica Pier on Sat the 11th. Might be a good starting point. I won't know until tomorrow if I've got the day off. The beach has been terrible this summer, with overcast conditions all day, but would like to show anyone who's up for it a tight route I take on my motorcycle through the hills of Malibu.
Just found out from the LA Shelby Club that they will have a new GT350 there. Here's the important info from their e-mail:
<<<Registration for our Tony Sousa Car Show is now closed! There will be NO day of event entries, we are full up!!
Thanks to all of you who are entered, we have a great selection of vehicles that will be on display. Even if you didn't get your car in, come on down and check it out, it's a great venue. There is paid parking on the pier ($8 - all day) or you could park up the street at Santa Monica Place near Colorado and 2nd St for free for a few hours.
Again, we'll be there from 10AM to 3PM on the south-east corner of the Santa Monica Pier. Remember, our special guest will be Bernie Kretzschmar, former Shelby employee (from '65 to '67) and R-Model and Mustang Trans-Am fabricator down at the old El Segundo shop.
Check out the Sept 9th issue of the westside's newspaper, The Argonaut. LASAAC member, T.W. Brown took some shots of Bruce Kawaguchi's '65 GT350 and Marvin Sachse's '64 289 Cobra outside the former Shelby shop on Princeton Drive in Venice.
ALSO, WHEN ENTERING AND EXITING THE PIER FROM OCEAN BLVD TO YOUR PARKING SPOT ON THE PIER - DRIVE SLOWLY AND TRY TO MAKE AS LITTLE NOISE AS POSSIBLE. THE SANTA MONICA POLICE WILL BE ON PATROL AND WILL NOT TOLERATE ANY DISPLAYS OF SPEED OR RECKLESSNESS - WE WOULD LIKE TO BE INVITED BACK TO HAVE ANOTHER CAR SHOW NEXT YEAR, PLEASE BE SAFE AND CONSIDERATE TO THE "PIER PEOPLE" AS WELL AS ALL SANTA MONICANS . . . IN OTHER WORDS, DO NOT BE A SQUIRREL!!!
This year we've partnered up with Rusty's Surf Ranch which is immediately adjacent to our car show on the pier. As a participant of our Car Show you will receive a coupon for a burger/drink combo for $4 (a regular $9 meal). In addition, anyone mentioning the Shelby Club event (Shelby members or not) will receive a 10% discount on food and drink.
Also, Jenni from the Carroll Shelby Foundation, will be displaying the new 2011 Shelby GT350 as well as a Shelby Super Snake.
