Had an eventful time at the fast lube.....
Saturday morning I decided to take the hot rod to my local express lube for the final oil change, that way it would officially be "road ready". I have dealt with these guys for years, and know them all pretty well. There are naturally a few younger kids that work there, but they only run around doing "busy" work, they aren't actually responsible for performing any work on the vehicles... That is the main thing I like about this particular place.
The guy that pulls the cars in and out of the shop is named Bill, and he is probably in his late 60's or early 70's. He is an old school gear head and has drag raced, done the circle track thing, worked at a very well known shop that builds race engines, etc... So when he heard me answering questions about my cars performance to one of the teenagers, he got involved in the conversation. We are always carrying on with each other, as he is a die hard Chevrolet man. So he injected into the conversation that while he was pulling the car out of the shop he would just take it up the road so I would finally see how it should be driven. Naturally, I suggested he go to the store first and buy some Depends undergarments, because I woud hate to see a FORD scare the sh*t out of him. So while I was paying the bill, I looked out the winow and see my car sitting down at the lower entrance to their parking lot with Bill behind the wheel. At first I thought he was just messing with me but when he pulled out into the road I started to get legitimately worried. Now Bill is a super good guy, and he was indeed just giving me a hard time and pulled back into the upper entrance of the parking lot, making it about a 35 yard round trip. However, as he pulled back into the lot (still in first gear) the temptation was too great and he hit the throttle. The blower let out its normal scream, the tires went up in smoke, and the car jumped sideways about 5 feet. Almost as quickly as he hit the throttle, he slammed on the brakes and came to a stop.... With the entire episode probably lasting less than two seconds. Bill didn't even pull the car the rest of the way up to the door, he simply shut it off and set the emergency brake, then did the walk of shame over to where me and the rest of the shop and customers were watching. As he put the keys back in my hand he said "I should have taken your advice on the Depends". I had to ask him what is the fastest thing he has ever sat down in, and he simply replied "that damn thing", and pointed to my car.
Granted, I could have gotten angry, and if he would have taken off own the road I probably would have. However, I have known him for years and we constantly carry on with each other over which is faster... So I figured to let it go. The look on his face getting out of the car really kinda made it all worth it. Of course as I was leaving a couple of the guys said "don't let Bill show you up", so I lit the tires up 1st gear thru 3rd gear in front of the shop. I mean, they were practically daring me, so I had to keep my manhood in place by doing SOMETHING.

Yeah, the fact I had known him and dealt with him through a business relationship For years made all the difference in the world. He is a good guy, and meant no harm at all, he was just carrying on like we normally do. Now if it had been one of the younger kids that would have done that, he better have hoped he would have signed up for AFLAC insurance coverage, because he would have needed it.
