Default n00b PSer needing help

I've watched videos on youtube and followed this http://www.digimods.co.uk/tutorials/tutorials.htm (carbon bonnet)but step 6-8 mess me up. The car and hood are together as 2 layers but the CF is totally separate as it's own background. I tried to do a screenshot to show ya'll but couldn't get to work either. What am I doing wrong? Also once I get past that how do I spin/ turn the CF around?

to change the background from white to 'nothing', when you create a new file, at the bottom of the screen there should be a section called 'contents' with a few options to choose from, select 'transparent'. like so:

to flip the layer, go to 'image', then 'rotate', then 'flip layer horizontally'. like so:

and, after some trial and error, i came up with this:

it might take a little playing around with, to get it, but it will get easier the more you practice

i'm using photoshop elements 2.0, so the steps to do this might be a little different than your version

I can't figure out how to rotate the cf without moving the car.

here's my 1st attempt at cf, any tip, tricks or pointers guys? BTW How do I cut out the hood emblem so it's not cf?

the best way to do the emblem is to: copy and paste the hood to create a new layer, then select/copy/paste the hood emblem on the 'hood layer' to create another layer (there should be at least 3 layers at this point: the background/car layer, the hood layer, and the emblem layer)

as far as having the whole car flip instead of the carbon fiber layer, make sure you have the carbon fiber layer highlighted/selected and not the car layer; i've made the mistake of having the wrong layer selected many times

hopefully that makes sense

there might be a keyboard shortcut+mouse combo that allows you to 'flip' an image (if there is, i don't know it), but if you have a layer highlighted or selected and you move the mouse a little to the outside of the image, it will allow you to rotate it; your the 'rotate cursor' should look like a curved double arrow
