SWEETNESS! thats awesome my friend, i would surely like to learn how to do this. Can it only be done with a purchased software such as photoshop or are there any freeware out there i could try?

I'm not sure, but I did use photoshop for this.

can photoshop be bought online, like as a download i only on disc from say microcenter or best buy ? Any idea what kinda cost im lookin at?

wow, very cool 01!

i've actually been playing around with photoshop lately learning how to make planets and starfields (this one's scaled down, but the real pic is like 1440x900):





and to devon, photoshop can be downloaded online through adobe, but at 800 bucks (for cs4), i'd rather have a hard copy if you are just beginning in photoshop, though, you can get photoshop elements 7 for 80-100 bucks at just about any place that sells software

You can download it from adobe online.

Photoshop cost a lot. I would get Photoshop Elements.

Photoshop CS4 is $700 from Adobe.
Photoshop elements 7 is only $90 from Adobe.

I don't know what kind of difference there is between the two though.

xeno, did you make the planet from scratch or was it a brush?

mainly from scratch; you use the pattern tool for the clouds/land/etc; but overall you have to create everything.
