Photoshop. any version from 7 and up. including CS and CS2

i have 7.0, i believe jon uses 9.0 CS2, so it really doesnt matter, it depends on how may tools you want and how many advanced features you want. i find that 7.0 is more than sufficient. so its up to you at that point.

I use Photoshop CS2, but Paintshop Pro 8 works well too. If you are gonna buy the program and be legit, then go Paintshop Pro 8 because it is a lot cheaper. I believe it's under 100 bucks rather then like 600 for Photoshop CS2. Paintshop Pro 8 is the same as Photoshop just a little more simple. You can do quality things in both, doesn't make a difference. As long as you get use to a program.

I use Adboce CS2 at work. At home, I use an older version of Adobe, version 7. Also at home I use the Macromedia Studio 8 suite, which comes with Flash, Fireworks, etc. I'm actually trying to learn the Macromedia stuff more since Adobe bought Macromedia, some of the products will be merged. I've heard Fireworks will be the Adobe ImageReady replacement but that is just rumor.

Re: downloading off limewire, you should know not everyone advocates stealing. It isn't good practice to take short cuts and half @ss like that. After all do you steal car parts for your stang and show it off? Would you be proud of it if you did? I guess some people would be, but I wouldn't. I save my money for software that I need. There are other graphics programs to use that are cheaper that work great for this kind of thing:

Corel Graphics Suite 12
Paint Shop Pro
etc.

Download trial software and see what you like.
