Parts Vendor - CJ Pony Parts?
Greetings Forum:
I am preparing to order parts for my Mustang (Back up Lights, Tail Lights, Rear Side Markers...) along with some other small things.
I have ordered from National Parts Depot (NPD) and the delivery turn-around-time was impressive! Usually one or two days. But they were not the least expensive not did they carry kits (which I find to be helpful since I need to replace entire units).
I have never ordered from CJ Pony Parts before but I have heard good things from one or two people at local car shows. I would like to hear from the members of this forum about their experiences with CJ Pony Parts and any other advice on placing parts orders for more than $300.00.
I have heard that UPS is the preferred delivery service as FedEx has a reputation of being difficult and less than careful when it comes to handling. This is not hard for me to believe because I used to work at an airport and we would see the way the FedEx staff loaded and unloaded the planes.
Also, I have been told to call before ordering online to check to see if the parts are in stock and verify the price. Last, I have been told to ask for a discount if the order exceeds $300.00 (from what I have been told, a vendor will usually extend a 10% discount).
Any other advice is always appreciated.

I have decided not to order from CJ again. I had a bad experience, it took over a month to get all my parts. Then one of them I had to return because although the wrapper said RH door hinge, it was a LH. took an e-mail and 5 phone calls to get the part returned.
but they offer free shipping on orders over $300, and are always sending e-mails of 10% off or free shipping on $50 orders.
Good luck on you parts buying.

Took four calls over a month to get their returns person to respond to their voicemail. Given, they then took back the part after 30 days was up, which is beyond their policy. They admitted they took too long getting back. The part was labeled new on their website and catalog, but was refurb.
I have had good dealings since, so maybe this was a fluke.

I haven't had any serious problems with CJ...I believe they are advertising 10% off on Fridays through March.
Have ordered from NPD but I have to admit I hate their on-line catalog.
I have ordered a good number of things from Virginia Classics in the past and had really good luck with them.
Locally, I use John's Mustang when I am in a hurry because I can order regular ground and get it the next day. The down side is John's seems to be a couple bucks higher on most things.
I spoke with a guy at Mustang Mania on the other side of town this past Saturday. They seem like really good guys and had a part I needed off a parts car for $15...I need an electrical connector and I don't want to buy the whole under dash harness right now. I had checked with CJ and they wanted a lot more for the same part in their used parts department. I am thinking about throwing Mustang Mania some more business going forward, especially if I am in a hurry and need a part fast.

I mainly use Mustangs Unlimited and CJ Pony Parts. While I've had a few minor problems with MU, I haven't had any with CJ that I can think of. They're great people to do deal with and have good customer service from my experience.
i havent had any issues with CJ buti havent ordered large orders yet. i did email them asking what brand their ball joints were and never got a reply back even 3 months later.
never did call about it as it wasnt a huge deal yet.
ive ordered from Vigrinia classic and like them. the only thing im not fond of is their website. the descriptions and lack of images makes me uneasy that i may not get the right thing. i typically use their catalog to look up parts.

I agree with you. They need to put more descriptions and pics up.
CJ is pretty good. Never had any problems with them. I do prefer NPD, I think the parts are better quality than CJ's, not all of them but some, and NPD is way faster with shipping and getting any back ordered parts to me.
