Interior
Back some months ago someone did the "Sports Pony" interior with the added head rests on their '65 or '66 Mustang. After many years of use, the interior restoration I had done in '92 is in need of a redo and if the pictures in the catalogue are a good representation, that's the way I want to go. I'd like to hear from anyone who has done this upgrade and see an update on how it's working out on both looks and wear and tear.
I will be doing it on my 70 here shortly, I have seen countless sets of these and they look VERY nice and they're super comfortable. The pics in the catalog are accurate.
Always liked the looks of the Sports Seat with added side bolsters however I never liked the look of the aftermarket headrests. I also don't like the way they fasten to the seat.. just not very secure IMO. Both are also very costly for what your getting really.
I took the rough set of 87-93 Mustang seats, which came in our 67, and tore them apart. I found that the top of the seat frame if cut off would fit inside the 67 seat frame perfectly! This top section has a full framework support for the headrests. I've cut and welded 1 seat so far which turned out great with the headrest perfectly positioned and securely held in place. The headrest itself is still a bit tall so I'm having the foam cut down and new vinyl covers made to match the two-tone Ivy Gold interior.
While I tore the seats apart I grabbed the power lumbar (seat back) setup from both seats to put into the 67 seats along with the heated seat elements I picked up. I've seen these seats sell on eBay for 20.00 bucks a set.
When I do my seat upholstery I'll be adding a bit of high density foam along the seat and back edges and lightly heating the upholstery during installation. This isn't going to bolster the seats like the kits do but it'll add some side bolstering at a fraction of the price.
