Irony...
Unbelievable Irony...
Along with the demise of a much loved company.

Here is an article spreading the news of Pontiac's Failure, and there's not just one but TWO Pontiac ads on the page guaranteeing assurance in their company.
Good article, read it. I wish i grew up in the era of smokey and the bandit, its one of my all time favorite movies.

I grew up during that time. I loved Trans Am's since I was old enough to say "Trans Am"....my mom still has a deal I wrote in elementary school where I wrote that I would one day own a Trans Am or a truck. I drove both an '80 Trans Am and an '82 F150 at one point or another in my high school days.
Before I bought the Mustang I just missed a hell of a deal on a '78 TA with T-tops, etc. The guy had already sold it before I found his ad.
Love the Mustang but sure want to have an older TA in the heard some day and I could kick myself for selling the '80 that I used to own even though I would really rather own a late 60's or early 70's model.
I was never so pissed in my life as when the went to the 3rd generation TA's in about '82...the whole Knight Rider thing just did nothing for me, LOL!

My dad's first new car that he bought post college was a burgundy, 326, 67 Firebird. The first couple years of Firebirds were better than all the other years combined. I like them much better than Camaros.
My Uncle has a couple 79-80 Firebirds which are great too. One is a Formula. Pretty cool. He refers to his gold one as his "Rockford" car.

Kinda sad. My grandfather and great grandfather opened a Pontiac dealership after WWII. They sold many a car and my dad, aunts, and uncles drove Lamans for years. We still have the Chief Pontiac status, all the seasonal posters they issued him, a few tin signs, some mechanic patches, and business cards with the original logo.
For a while now, I have considered buying my Dad and I a ticket to Barrett Jackson and shopping for a GTO or Lamans for him to get into the hobby with. He always wanted a GTO, but the family dealership got too much money for them so he was forced to drive the Lamans (1967 and 1969). Deprived, I know. My favorite car growing up was the Classic Mustang and the 1977 TransAm. I have gotten the Mustang, and maybe someday will find a deal on a TransAm.
It is sad that company responsible for some of the greatest American muscle cars is about to go away. I know the big push is for limiting the number of car models to achieve lower cost, but it is still a sad event.

Here's what I find as funny...not in a "ha,ha" sort of way.
Dodge makes some pretty beefy trucks and I really like their Challenger that has sort of a retro look. Due to work a while back I drove a new F150 down to the coast and then drove a Dodge truck back....the Dodge blew the F150 away without any question.
Mustangs have had a more muscle car / sort of retro look for several years now. I see a lot of them on the road so my guess is Stang sales are not hurting too much. I have driven a lot of Fords through the years because my Grandmother worked at the dealership till she retired and I used to be able to get great deals on Fords.
Ford seems to be in reasonably solid shape financially and I don't recall Dodge asking for a bail out.
But have you seen the new Camaro? Muscle car it ain't by a long shot, looks like a midsized sedan that they tried to slap a sports car label on. Now they are killing Pontiac. And they wonder why GM is going under.

Well, Chrysler Motor Company which Dodge, Jeep, and Plymoth are subsidiaries of has been sold several times in the past 10 years. Most recently, they filed Chapter 11 bankruptcy. They are not in good shape either.
Ford on the other hand has been buying back stock for the past several years, renegotiating contracts, and considering taking the company private to avoid current public trading issues. They are also the only one of the American three that did not take Brother Bama's money. If you ask me, they are the only one not in mortal danger, but they may still cancel products and lines much like GM did with Pontiac.

Man, America is falling to the ground. And the auto industry plays a big role in this. my personal opinion is that there should be tariffs placed on imported cars. Keep the wealth in the U.S. of A. where its needed.... But who am I to have an opinion in this "democracy"?
