Default Stripping

I have a 1972 Mach1 Q Code (4V, 4speed) that I am starting a restoration on (1st one). I have stripped most of it down with a few more things left. After that I need to get it down to bare metal to fix rust and bodywork.

What do you recommend to do this "properly". I have gotten advice from dipping to soda to harsher media. It has paint and bondo and undercoating. It all needs to come off.

Here is a pic. Its a little more bare now and will soon be down to basics and ready for the next step.

Didn't mean to dissappoint.

I've heard of that being good, but not sure if I want so much work or mess or the chance of missing any "hidden" spots. I like the idea of someone pointing a wand at it and getting it all off or dipping it in a vat of solution.

the only reason i mention the stripper is cost. i think it costs around 1k to get it sandblasted or dipped :O plus atleast sandblasting can warp the metal some, and something just phazes me talking about dipping my car in a vat of acid... lol
i bet if you took your time the stripper would work just fine. in spots you couldnt necesarily get to with ir you could always sand it down.

Yes. The warping is definitely a concern here...but also spending days/weeks stripping a car manually in Texas summer just doesn't seem like alot of fun.

Might want to check out this site for some ideas.

I too am disappointed...when a thread says stripper I would at the least expect a hooters girl washing a car or something, LOL!

Thanks for the link to Steve's mustang restoration. That is good incentive to try the chemical.

Here's a pic. Hope this helps.
