Not true. They started putting overdrive in them as early as 1989.

The F350 will be cheaper since you won't need theft insurance. No one is going to steal a 97 crew cab. The Mustang is another story.

LOL. j/k.

43 year old cars that haven't been 85% or more restored will be more expensive than a 13 year old truck to run. I can't compare gas/diesel consumtion figures, but you will wind up spending more for parts for the Mustang. After 40 years of regular driving, everything from weatherstripping to wheel bearings to external engine parts to master cylinder to steering and electrical really start to go. Like I said, if these parts have already been recently replaced/repaired/restored the Mustang will be mostly maintenance free, but that kind of car will cost more than a 97 F350 to begin with. It really comes down to what you want to drive in the Winter.

That's really what the deciding factor is. I would NEVER drive a classic car i the now, so I think im gonna end up goin with a truck. A Mustang would be nice to have, but at my age, It's impractical and another cost I probably wouldn't have enough money for.

There's a certain freedom to driving something you don't care about. Buy a cheap beater and save for the Mustang.

THIS. I have 7 cars including a 99 Powerstroke and my 67 Mustang. But, my daily driver for the 75 mile round trip to and from work is a $100 Nissan Sentra that gets 35 mpg. Sure, it's beat to HELL (it had been rearended and front ended when I got it) but it runs good, drives okay, and the heater and stereo works so why not drive it? The plus side is that if I hit a deer, elk, or moose on my way to work I'm not out anything because I figure I have more than gotten my $100 out of it.

I use Intrepids, S10 Blazers, and 80s era F150s for winter beaters. I dont usually have more than $400 in any of them, so far the 92 Blazer has run the longest.

I actually already have more than enough money (for a decently restored one) between money I have saved and if I sold my Ranger. But I also will be getting an apartment in the next year or two, and wouldn't have storage for the mustang. I will eventually get one...it's on my to do list.

Those are nice but I usually look a little closer to us. I gotta go downstate to pick up a parts car for the GTO, man that is a long boring drive. Dont forget to look in Wisconsin and Minnesota, the cars there have a lot less rust than anything up here. Found these near green bay, and dont worry about repairs if you can get it out here and there is room in the shop you are welcome.

A tad pricey to me but a nice ride

Actually considering this one myself, but I dont mind rust so much.

Another build project

A decent one, not too bad on price either

I agree with THUMPIN455. All the mustangs I looked at in Mich were all rotten underneath, and some were nice looking FB. If I was to do it over again I would go south to find a good starter car or even a completed one. Cheep is not a reason to buy one up here.
