Call American Family and see if they will quote you an AGREED value policy and how much more it will cost you. As I said above, there is a big difference between agreed and stated value policy and most people get confused and end up using the terms interchangeably which is very very wrong.

My American Family is stated value, which is why I priced the others (though my agent told me the appraisal would establish the 'actual cash value' for a claim). The others are all agreed value. Hagerty is twice as high as the other two for the same agreed value.

I have attempted to insure with Haggerty in the past. I am convinced they have enough clients and just don't want anymore business. I live in MD but had a speeding ticket in my DD in OH 2 years before I approached Haggerty to insure both my mustangs. They turned me down because of the ticket.

Hit me today that my Hagerty ins was up for renewal soon. Jumped in the stang and drove down to see my Allstate agent as he hadn't seen the car yet. He called Hagerty and gave them the new increased Agreed Value (thanks Nick for correcting my terminology there). They FAXed a form to him which we had to fill out stating all the upgrades and work done along with photos of the interior, exterior, trunk and engine bay. I didn't hide anything and listed everything they asked for on the form.

He just called me saying they would leave the car classed as Stock and not Modified! No appraisal needed, not classed as modified (expensive), and only a small increase in the yearly cost due to the increased Agreed Value which I almost doubled. Still $0.00 deductible too.

The larger displacement in engine size, coil-overs, Shelby body mods, electrical, etc and its still classed as Stock. I'm happy lol.

Ok that disqualified this insurance for me then. For one I use my Stang often (not daily but several days a week) and secondly I have 'only' two cars and my wife is of course a licensed driver as well.

Do you own a 100K car?LOL Seriously, I found Hagerty to be the lowest. I know that if you have major or expensive mods. like stereo equip.,wheels, custom paint or high HP, the premium starts shooting up.

Dang! I tested Hagerty with me being 18(17 til Feb) and a price of 6500 for my 67 and it was only around $330 a year.

The page just had 'modified' and 'stock'. Stock for Hagerty was $354 for the same valuation. I just couldn't figure out why they were so much higher than Grundy. They sent me an email saying they provide great service so they cost more.

I signed up through Hagerty and added my own Stated Value. You pay a bit extra for this however no appraisal is needed unless you're stating $95,000.00 or more iirc. Most regular Ins Co allow a Stated value to be added to the policy as well.
this is wrong. when i talked with hagerty i wanted a stated value of $30k and i was going to have to get an appraisal.

and i dont think its crappy they want him to get it appraised. its a win win for both parties in theory. if he gets in an accident theres already a written agreement of what the car is/was worth.

it also keeps the insurance company from having to deal with a customer saying no its worth X amount.

typically if they ask for a market value its a policy where they will pay the amount the car was worth instead of the crap they do on new cars.

theres HUGE differences between hagarty and grundy though.

for one, grundy has an attendance clause where hagerty does not.

hagerty you can be doin a sunday cruise and stop at the local market or restaraunt and the car is covered while it sits in the parking lot unattanded, grundy it sits uninsured and no damages/theft will be covered.

grundy wont even look at you if youre under 25, hagerty will

hagerty you can live in 1 state and have the car insured in that state but stored in another state as long as its in a garage. you could also live in 1 state but have it insured in the state its stored.

both want you to have a clean record or they wont insure you

hagerty requires 2 pictures (1 ext 1 int) for cars that are like $5k or less. if its more then that it needs appraised & sometimes more then 2 pix.

i used to have a few emails from a woman that works at hagerty in MI at their headquarters but to lzy to look.

the local underwriter was a douche. id ask him questions and he would skate around them. like is there a mileage clause. he would say 'well its a classic so youll treat it like a queen and wont put many miles on it anyway' id ask again and even stated that the nationwide plan has mileage limits and hed just repeat himself.

then he kept pushing the fact hagerty has classic car loans. i told him i dont need it. the car is paid for title in hand but for some reason a 23 year old asking to insure a '65 mustang thats appraised at $30k and is also paid for is hard to comprehend becuase he kept pushing it saying 'yea but you never know you might need the loan to get the car' LOL
