Default Looking for ideas on headers

I'm thinking about getting rid of the stock exhaust manifolds and adding headers as one of the next projects. I thought that I had my choice figured out, but after talking to a few guys and doing some reading, I'm not really sure the choice I was going to make was the right one. So before I buy, I thought I'd ask a bunch of guys/gals who have Mustangs instead of friends that own other cars.

In your opinion, should I be looking at shorty headers or long tube headers for street driving? I want the added horsepower that headers will give me, but I don't plan on racing the car. Of course, the chrome look that metallic headers give help make it look a little nicer too.

I was thinking about putting in Hooker Competition Headers.

So...let's hear your thoughts and ideas. I'd really appreciate it.

I like mid length headers. In my minds eye they are a good comprimise, affording good performance, easy fit, and they never drag.

I have mid length JBA headers and would recommend them.

I have some ceramic coated Sanderson blockhuggers. They are shorty style. The only issue I had was a slight clearance problem near the starter. They contacted the block where they pass over the starter so I ground off some of the block and hit the road.

I run Hooker long tubes and have no clearance issues with the street or speed bumps on my windsor based '69. My biggest problem is working on the clutch linkage...there is zero room to spare. As for performance, I love my Hookers. I also run "equalength" Bassani headers on my 351 in the Bronco and like them. Anything header is going to be better than the stock manifold. The longtube headers are going to give you a little more performance in theory, but like I said, any header is getting than what you got.
