Default Hood Prop Rod

I just bought a fiberglass hood for my 66 coupe and want to install a Shelby prop rod but don't seem to be able to come up with a good location that fits well. Has anyone installed one of these with good results?

Hey RL. I have a fiberglass hood also, with the metal backing. I think the best way to go is to get springs that have less tension. Most mustang places that sell the hood also sell the springs. I have them on mine and it opens and shuts like a normal hood.

If you are set on a prop rod, I would take a trip to the wrecking yard and look for something that would fit. I'm sure there is something that would latch down on the front radiator support section would work fine.

+1 on the wrecking yard trip. On my 65, I installed a prop rod off a 2005 Mustang. Made a small L bracket to mount it to the radiator frame. It works perfect and stores sideways across the core support.

I installed the chrome Stott Drake prop rod on mine and it works well. I decided to use it after hinge and spring problems I was having. I mounted it on the passenger side and it lays down behind the radiator support infront of the radiator. The rubber end rests on the ridge on the inner fender on the driver side when its down.
