Default 9 3/4" diff???

Hi all
anyone able to tell me about 9 3/4" diffs?

i'm interested to find out more about them - what cars they used them in, what difference to a normal 9" and so on.

any information appreciated!

thanks

Hey AussiFB,

I am almost certain that it is a rear end out of a Ford truck. Because the early mustangs are pretty small cars, you can almost be certain that the width of the axle is way too wide.

Unless you have a real super high HP motor, an 8 inch will run all day long. The 9 inch in the correct width only came in cars with "K" motors, so very rare. A common upgrade is using a Ford Versailles rear end, which is a 9 inch rear, disc brakes and the right width.

Good luck.

thanks
i have a 9" but then found out the center is 9 3/4".

its all been rebuilt but i'm in need of some shims which are apparently different from a normal 9".

if it's rare/ specific to a particular car i may off load it to someone in need (over here of course...it would be a bitch to ship!)

you are not trying to say that the 9" isn't holding up anymore?
