Default I need a '68 Fastback Expert

I have a couple of questions about my '68 Fastback... By running the door data plate I am told that it is a 1968 Fastback 2+2 built in Dearborn with a build date of July 23, 1968. It also notes the Engine code "C' 289 2V V8.

This is what confuses me. My restoration manual contradicts itself in two different places, but as a consensus states that the 289 engines were put in only early production cars. I do not consider 7-68 to be early production, so this is a bit confusing. Also, I have restoration photos of my car, and have no reason to believe that the rear quarters were ever replaced. I bought it from the original owner, and it spent most of its life in Tennessee. Here is my second question..My car has no rear marker lights. I can't find related info, but I would also assume in this case that the transition from '67 to '68 from no rear marker lights in '67 to marker lights in '68 would have been complete by 7-68. It just seems as if a July car would have marker lights...Any insight to answer my questions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Todd
