Werid problem
I have a 66 with a straight 6 3sp and AC.
I rebuilt the motor. It ran for about a year, now when you try to start it , it will run 30 sec. back fire and quit. Do you think it is the wrong Cam.
Also if the brake peddle is pushed down the right front parking light comes on.
Why would that happen, Where could the wires be crossed at?

if the cam is defective, the problem is consitent. it will not cause the engine to run/not run. eithers either alwyas crap or always good.
for the lights my best guess is that one of the brake lights in the back has no proper ground (contact/wire to chassis). it will pull ground through the parking lights then
for the 30 second run problem, does the engine stay running if you keep revving it? if it does it might be a problem with the carb adjustment, or vacuum leaks. if it stalls then you might have a problem with fuel supply (filters/pump etc). I couldn't think of a problem with ignition that would allow car to run for 30 secs and then no more (if that's repeatable). If it stalls, can you get it back running? if yes, how

Yea Kalli has it. Problems like this are typically ignition or fuel. I would start with seeing if there is fuel at the carb when it stops running. If you have fuel, then verify you have spark at the plugs when it stops running. These two quick things will lead you far down the trouble shooting path with about 15 minutes worth of work.
I agree with the guys above, after mine sat for an extended length of time it had trash and gas residue in the gas tank and fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump. Would run 5 to 10 minutes at idle and run out of gas, plugged filter. Changed the filter and run gas line to a 5 gal gas can and it ran at any RPM until I tried pulling from the fuel tank again. Ended up changing fuel line from tank to fuel pump and the tank itself, no problem after that.
