Default Hello again...

It has been awhile since I was on this forum. I'd taken a break from restoring my baby to enjoy driving her. She's been throwing fits lately so it got me thinking about her and getting her back to better than new condition.

Here she is a few days after I fixed the damage the previous owner did in an accident.

It was a hard fight to get to that.

Over the years some of the po's sins have started to surface. The doors have rotted from the inside out. Thankfully I have a parts car so I was able to put on a red temporary door.

Unfortunately this took me a few weeks to finish. Another lady rolled into my life, one I had been trying to find for over 10 years. (ignore the front plate, it is gone now. The rear plate however is all mine.)

Yes...someone painted that Delorean. That will come off eventually.

And these two aren't the only ladies I have to take care of. My 66 Nova has been in restoration limbo for over 6 years.

The Mustang unfortunately can't be my top priority all the time but she is at the moment. I managed to blow the old voltage regulator on the back of the gauge cluster and then nearly killed her 289 with a massive oil leak. Well, less of an oil leak and more of a james bond level oil slick forming at 60mph. Thankfully she did not overheat or seize. That is a tough little motor. I've got a front disc brake conversion kit with dual master cylinder that I have been holding on to for the better part of 2 years along with some new front springs. I'm hoping to install that over the winter. I want to repair the driver's door and driver's side quarter panel. Both are rusted through. She also leaks like a spaghetti strainer, the cowl is shot. That may have to wait until I can get a garage built to do the work in. The Nova has my shop filled.

So anyway, sorry about the long post and hello again

Thanks, I love that Delorean. I'd always get attention with the Mustang so I thought I was prepared for the Delorean but I was mistaken. I can't go to the gas station, store, movies, anywhere without getting some sort of reaction. My favorite was when I went to the comic book shop. I drove by the front entrance and then into the parking lot. Just before I pulled into a spot I looked in my rearview to see a dozen or so people running after me. I spent about 10 minutes showing them the car and talking about Back to the Future.

Actually no cars were painted from the factory. Only 4 cars ever left the Ireland in anything but silver. Three were gold plated and one was a dark red for Delorean's son. Mine was painted at the dealership. She's an October of 81 car but didn't leave the lot until 83. I think she was painted to sell.

I got my new voltage regulator and LEDs in so I'm going to go reinstall my gauge cluster in the Mustang.

lol, I really hope there isn't. Another red Delorean owner just finished stripping his and found not only intact stainless but the grain was still on the panels. The dealer just sprayed the car without sanding it. His car and Red both have the unpainted door jams and horrible overspray so with any luck I'll have the same results.

I did the gauge cluster on my Mustang, the good news is everything that was working before is working again. The bad news is my fuel gauge is still broken. Plus the incandescent light in my tach looks terrible.

Yep, it was all over the Delorean forum I frequent. A lot of the guys on there attended the DMC open house when it was revealed and they got to race it on a track. It is faster than a stock Delorean but not as quick as the Stage 1 or 2s. Then they showed the Stage 3 with the supercharger, that was a fast Delorean. Unfortunately, they all fall short to the raw power of a classic Mustang.

If you want to hear something really odd, I know of one Delorean modification that takes a Motorcraft 2100 carb to convert from the KJet fuel injection. They say a low pressure fuel pump and new manifold are all that is needed.

One thing i always found odd was the Delorean had a x frame and when gm brought out the fiero it had one too.Gm used a x frame from 58-64 and never again tell the fiero. Is it me or was the fiero a knock at Delorean?
