What's your thoughts, Drums or Disc Brakes
Hi, I am working on coverting my inline 6 to a V8 and working on the front and rear drums. I really want to convert to disc brakes but they are pretty expensive compared to rebuilding the drums. I am looking for some input as to if they are really worth the extra $?

You don't have to go with all new parts if you are resourceful.

What year do you have?
If it is a 65-66 then you have to change your spindles and steering for a proper V8 conversion.
If it is a 67 up then you already have the V8 steering.
As for converting to discs. Doing the fronts is a must!

I have drums all the way around and had drove the car daily for 6 years. Personally I like the feel of drums better. It gives it that older feel and I like a classic to feel like a classic and not as easy to drive as more modern cars. That might just be me though.

It's a 65 coupe which is currenly being painted I have V8 front spindles complete with drums and brakes that I just purchased from a buddy. Getting the 8" rear end next week from him as well. So I was just looking for peoples option on drums compared to disc. I also like the feel of the old cars, so maybe the drums will be something I should stick with.

Since he's doing a v-8 conversion, maintaining its historic configuration is not relevant. I would think with a v8 you'd want better brakes? Like you though, that's just me.

If you've got factory v8 spindles, pick up the OE-style Kelsey-Hayes disc kit from CSRP. That's what I run on my '67 and I really like it. A power booster is optional. I opted against it initially with the plan to add it later if I felt I needed it. I don't The manual discs are much, much better to drive with than the original manual drums, and I don't feel any need for a power booster. If it was my wife's/daughter's car, I'd have different thoughts about it.

A disc brake conversion is well worth the investment, the old drum style brakes have limited effectiveness. Since you are upgrading to a V8, you will need the extra braking power that the disc brakes deliver.
Safety upgrades are always money well spent.
