My 67 Fastback Build... :)

Bought the car this afternoon. Came with the original manual, and the maintainence records since 1994. Aparently the trans was rebuilt less than 2000 miles ago, brake rebuild too, carb build, coolant flush (looks cleaner than whats in the Granxe). The car is solid! One repaint of original color, mid eighties time frame.. Probably.

Checked the plugs.. awesome color! Fluids all look great, drained the oil tonight and will pick up a new drain plug tomorrow before filling up, it leaked. Sprayed some wd 40 in places and will drain the old gas tommorow, add some good stuff, and crank her up.

Also noticed a new distributor cap, pertronics, and a flamethrower.. then found the receipts. :)and pics to come.. Then a video of the start and drive home.

My helper. She wanted to do something while I checked plugs and introduces a little WD 4040 to the cylinders.. She wiped the seats and found stuff. A little hammer, a peach pit.. Then she proclaimed. "Dad, this car is going to be mine."

Like I posted on your facebook page; this couldn't happened to a better person. Good thing that some douche bag car flipper/investor didn't pick it up instead of you.

As the father of two daughters, I think we could stick a fork in you now. You're done. ;)

Can't wait to see how this turns out.

Thanks James!

Awesome find and glad to see a build thread for this gem. Your daughter has good taste in cars. Not to age you another 10 years but you will have to be extra cautious if you giver her the car to critique every guy she meets, they will ALL want to drive it.

1970 04-07-2013 10:36 AM

thats funny 69 when i was 12 i saw my sisters boyfriend driving my dads 67 fb when she got home i put it in the garage and pulled the motor on it. no way that guy was gonna drive that car it was mine .

Waffles 04-07-2013 05:33 PM

4reboy 04-07-2013 05:53 PM

Congrats booger, very nice find. Where in San Diego are you? I'm in San Diego now, let me know if you ever need a helping hand.

I look forward to seeing more pics!

boogerschnot 04-08-2013 09:45 AM

4reboy.. Im in Ramona.. will definately get together.

fastbackford351 04-12-2013 03:14 PM

Too cool. That'll be a hoot.

My 9 year old daughter begged me to drive her to school in the "cool Mustang" since her Grandma who usually does it was out of town. Pulling in to the school parking lot to drop her off she is sitting sideways in the seat on her knees grinning like a fool and waving to make sure that all the boys in her class see her and "see how I roll".

boogerschnot 04-13-2013 02:23 PM

She's home!!!! Got it running and driving this morning and drove it home.

Started working right after my run this morning. Here's the previous owner.

CPTCO 04-13-2013 04:06 PM

So you're the old guy in the sweats? Good to know what members here look like.

NoReins 04-13-2013 04:07 PM

That's a neat picture. Get that one printed out, I can see your daughter cruising around in that car 20-30 years from now and showing people that pic! Congrats again on your new family member.

fastbackford351 04-14-2013 10:06 AM

I just noticed the console. Nice.

What other options does it have?

boogerschnot 04-14-2013 12:08 PM

It has power steering and the seatbelt light.

Texagi95 04-19-2013 07:58 AM

Good luck on your build!!! Looks pretty clean!!

Pulled the driver side fender this afternoon and had the daughter scraping some seam sealer off, the metal there is beautiful, the cowl looks great! I think this car is gong to be a dream to restore. Found the carb leaking fuel at the bowl, which is normal after sitting for 6 years. Going to pull the motor and paint up the engine bay and engine. Then start the body work.

I am guessing that's your wife smiling from ear to ear next to the drum set. I am sure she will be happy when you have this project done.

boogerschnot 05-07-2013 08:42 PM

Yep, thats her. She should be really happy being that the car is going to be hers.. I picked up a carb rebuild kit at Napa today for the 2300 autolite. And I built a couple of sawhorses to put the fenders on. Time to get to work.

cashs mom 05-09-2013 11:37 AM

Looks great! Got to teach those kids about restoration early ;)

Got the door lined up good.. Then decided I was tired of looking at the emission set up and removed it. I bought a couple of brass washers and a steel washer along with two 5/16*18ct 1.5 inch grade 8 bolts to cover the exhaust port in the head that the emission tube bolted to. Here are a couple of pics. Hopefully it seals up well, I couldnt get the car started. I think the old gas and crud finally plugged up the carb. One the plus side, I picked up a carb rebuild kit at Napa and plan to get it fixed up and running again soon.

Ill probably clean up the engine bay and engine at the same time and then lay a little ford blue on the motor, and some cast iron paint on the manifolds before putting it back together.

Pics. The original setup has a small brass washer on top and bottom of the tube.
Attachment 62721

The old stuff pulled out. Its in really good shape, too bad it looks like crap in the engine bay.
Attachment 62722

How it looks on the engine. I think the brass washers should be soft enough to seal to the head. Just need to add some thread locker.

The wife and kids were in a accident week before last and her car got totaled.. Some 16 year old kid was in the turn lane on a empty street and turned head on across her lane of traffic just as she about to pass him. He was busy looking at a mini van on the oposite side of the street and didnt see her coming strait at him in her own lane when he turned. Everyone was ok, but both cars were a loss. So we picked up this beauty..

Big thanks to Waffles on getting me the info on the pricing.. Thanks dude.

Its a 2013 Pony package V-6.. All the bells and whistles.. She runs pretty peppy too for a 6 cylinder! Now im getting all kinds of crap for having 3 mustangs in the garage. Why not? I needed another family car. :)

Nice upgrade for the wife on the daily driver. You can never have too many Mustangs in the garage just ask NoReigns. I can't wait to see more progress on this, I really love the early fastback mustangs.
