I'm guessing that it took two complete idiots an afternoon to install this "T-top" sunroof,...cute, huh?
They paid probably $70, for the top, back then,...
It is going to take a full roof replacement, for about $1500, to eliminate it, now,...
Sigh,...
We are scheduled for both, full, rear fender skins, and a full roof skin, starting August 7,...It took 32 years for us to get to this point.
I can't wait to paint it!
While awaiting the trip to the shop, I've added LEDs, all around and inside,...even added an LED 'courtesy light under the dash. I've also insulated the area behind the rear seat. And the car has a new Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo with iPod input,...6" round 2-way JVCs in a box, up front, and 6x9" 3-way Blaupunkts, in the back. 25W per channel RMS x 4 is plenty, in this size vehicle, for me.
Old school, but nice!
Roof skin arrived yesterday afternoon, rear fender skins are safely stored away, and the Mustang is disassembled for this work, and my paint (at a later date). Everything is ready to go.
Shop-visit went great, today,...REALLY nice restoration shop - showroom, and their lot, full of Mustangs and Camaros,...and a couple of others. They work on all years, but specialize in restos,...nice folks, too. Looks like they do good work.
August 7,...
Thanks, racer_dave,...will do.
Wow! Did I ever get it wrong,...!
I have the actual estimate, now - and $1500, for the roof-work would be CHEAP. $2500 to do the MIG work on the roof - and $3500 to do both rear fenders. Yipes! That's painful.
Too bad. I've got the driver's fender down to shiny steel, and the only rust is just along the upper edge of the fender-lip, and an ~2" diameter hole, just behind the rear wheel. I'll post a pic, when I get one,...
While pressure washing the crappy version of "Highland Green" (that someone chose to insult the car with, long ago) off of the rear valance, I found this curiosity just above the license plate bracket,...
It is on top of the factory "Ivy Gold" metallic, but was under the poorly prepped repaint. Looks like 'production line' accounting numbers of some sort,...Anyone have ideas?
More pics ASAP.
The reasons for rear fender skin replacement:
Passenger side has been pretty well molested,...
I'll have to see how much the shop can do with the 'ding' at the passenger-side bumper mount. Since it involves the mount, it will be hard to move that heavy metal much. I just hope they can get the rear panel returned to it's proper shape, on that side,...the rest of the deformity resides under the bumper.
I have yet to get inside the doors to rebuild them and deal with a few door dings, but the rest of the car is ready for final bodywork and paint - it has new door hinges, and all of the body-panels are aligned. Interior is removed, and stored, for now.
We'll be off to the shop on Monday.
Just thought you all might get a kick outta my ol' key fob. It's from a long-since-gone business, just off of I-25, outside Fort Collins, CO. Friend of mine went to the "grand opening", and picked it up.
The place had a "POOR" reputation, and closed a few years after opening, due to drug dealing on the premises.
When I found out how much all of this was going to cost, I HAD to sand-down the driver's rear fender to see if it could be salvaged somehow,...and I found 1/4" of Bondo. Crap!
I'll haul the still bubble-wrapped rear fender skins to the shop tomorrow, in my '78 Silverado 4x4, FRANKENTRUCK. They are to start fenders on Wednesday.
