What would you Do?
If you had a bottom end that was running fine, no oil burning and no problems at all (rebuilt about 3 - 4 years ago). And you had an extra block that needed to be totaly reworked, would you build on what you had or build on the extra block? Keep in mind that the extra block is going to cost an additional $750 to get worked..
If it was the original motor that came in the car I would continue to use it but if it's not then I would build the extra block so you could take your time on it and your car will only be down a couple of days when you get the new motor finished instead of weeks or months like I'm having to do. I also have an extra 302 laying around that was rebuilt about 10,000 miles ago and is a pretty stout motor but I wanted to keep the original engine in my car so I am having it built instead.
Nope, the org motor is long gone, that was a 289. It now has a stok 302 in it..

Do you want a higher performing engine?
You have a nice looking driver, so I would keep it that way. As you build your other engine and get closer to completion, you may be able to sell your current engine to someone looking for an inexpensive replacement (and recoup some $$.)

if i had the option, id keep the old engine in and rebuild the old block and take my time with the process. this was if money was a factor you could get the parts you want, or are recommended by your engine man.
Build a mild stroker, dyno it before install. Nothing like going out in the garage and dialing in the little stuff, while waiting on parts to show up.
Saturday would be install, Sunday would be play time.

Pull the original motor, bag it and stick it in a corner.
In case you want to sell the car it will be worth more with the original motor.
Then buy a High Horse Stroker create motor and have fun!

I think I'm going to build up another block and then swap everything out. This way (was as stated in this post), I can enjoy what I have now and it the fall, start the swap. I have upgraded AOD on the way as well.
PS: The motor that's in it now, is NOT the original 289.. She has a 302 in it now and I'm going to build another 302 for it.
