Default Rusted Trunk

I've got some rust holes in trunk area on 1970 fastback. Holes are right next to where gas tak is on left hand side pretty close to to the lip where the tank sets in. The rest of the trunk is solid - seen some replacement panels for trunk - just curious how big of job this is. Appreciate some feedback. thans

Most of the trunk area panels are available - but as to doing anything about it yourself depends on your skills. Can you weld? Might want to leave it to a professional if you have the resources. The trunk area in my '65 fastback was rotten on both sides and in front and in back. Had everything replaced. Smaller areas such as holes can be replaced piecemeal, welding new pieces in where the rot is - larger damage will require complete replacement panels.

My 1973 was the same way. I cut out the old panel using an air hammer breaking the spot welds (make sure your blade is sharp, big time saver) and welded in a new one. I ended up with some sections that were rusted but not replaced by the replacement panel, so I cut out usable (with a cutting disk) sections of the old rusted panel and fit them in place to complete the repair. Total time: 12 hours. Cost: about $90 for the part and $2/hr for bay space at the local Army craft shop. Be sure to buy at least a quart of POR-15 when you are restoring your ride.
