Default Steering Wheel Nut Size

does anyone happen to know the size of the steering wheel nut on a 1968 fixed steering colum that holds the steering wheel on....?

i need to get that thing off and i need to know the size of socket head i need to take it off with because i dont have anything that big and i have to go buy one at the store.

The size on my 65 is 15/16". I dont know if they are the same size.

what year is your car?

anyone know if they were the same size all the way through the years??


haha knowing for they probably switch it about 20 times through each year....(whatever nuts they had lying around)

yeah it got it off. thanks for the help.

now can i possibly pull the steering wheel without a steering wheel puller or is that impossible?

Wiggle it, giggle it and pull it at the same time. Some times they will come off. Word of advice, start the nut back on the shaft a few treads before you try it, so the wheel doesn't hit you in the noggin! Don't force it though you can bend the wheel.

i tried as hard as i could and it didnt work so i got a little baseball bat from the little league days, wrapped it in a beach towel and had one firm flick of the wrist and it popped right off. MAGIC!

yeah, normally id take a lot more care, but since it was going in the trash anyways, (its already cracked and all that) i figured like, who cares, lets just get this POS off of here....
