Unfortunately, if you don't have a filler plug, you will have to remove the rear and axle to fill it back up fill it back up with 85 weight oil. You just simply pour the oil into the axle housing after you replace the gasket. And don't forget the friction additive stuff.

There is a fitting on the drivers side. It takes a 3/8 drive ratchet. figure out where the leak is coming from. If it is the pinion seal you do not have to take the rear end apart just the yoke. Also, you don't have to mess with the leaf springs.

What kind of car do you have? I'm assuming it is a 65-68 V8 mustang.

You can add oil with a special pump , but you can't drain the old oil out without taking the axle down or popping the seal. If the gasket is leaking, that would be the best way to drain the pumpkin since you have to drain it anyway to replace the gasket. See the pic of my pumpkin. You can see a plug where you can check the level of the oil, but without a pump of some kind, you can't drain out the old oil. You could, however, pop the seal, drain the oil, replace the gasket, then tow it to a place where they have the pumps to fill it with 85-90 weight gear oil. Jiffy Lube comes to mind. Bearing in mind, this is an 8" rear from my 65.
