Why do you want a 289? If you are doing a "concours" correct build, then you will need to find a used block with a date code that is 15 - 60 days earlier than the "scheduled" build date of your car. If you are doing a restomod then you would be much better off with a 302 crate engine. There are a wealth of options available for the 302 (or 351W) that would drop into your car. Do a search for 302 crate engines and you'll find complete new with warrenty engines starting at about $3000, very hard to beat! Of course you could pull and rebuild an engine from a junk yard, but watch the costs.

I'm not particular about which engine. I want a small V8 with lots of availible parts....the 302 is propably the best way to go.

i like the 351W and hey, it fits. but with a 67, maybe go with an FE block if you've got the money

yeah basically...just go with the biggest engine you can afford...

if your into handling, consider a small block...if you just want to haul buns and dont care so much about the corners a big block is your best bet....

a 351W is a good compromise....i just like the 302 for some reason.

dont forget about the gas devasation....

I'm getting old enough where I don't care as much about power as I do about cost (gas milage). I can get a 302 from a friend of mine....he's got a number of block in his utility shed. They're even pickled. He'll give me a deal.

Well, my car has the 289 with the 2bbl carb, and the only thing I've added to it so far performance wise is dual exhaust, and I have no problem smoking tires from a stand still with a C4.
