Default Thumbs up Mustang wave

I have noticed that in my hill country part of Texas, that there are several Newer Mustangs running arond, and everytime I drive my 65, I get compliments at the gas station, etc, but whenever I meet another newer model Mustang coming at me on the road, and I give them the thumbs up sigh, there is no response. What's up with that?

So many people own mustangs, but only a few know mustangs and respect them. That is my theory.

Its not just Texas. I would bet 90% of the 6 cylinder 99-05 mustang owners have no clue that there is a mustang more than 2 years older than the one they own let alone 40 years older. They just bought it on a whim or because they liked that body style with no clue of any past knowledge. Or at least that’s how it seems to me.

I get most of the thumbs ups from other classic car owners/ crappy car owners/ and guys on any type of motorcycle (higher % per capita)
People with modern mustangs probably are near the bottom of the thumbs up list. Good question as to why that is.

That is the difference between building them and buying them.

yeah, i got some thumbs up driving my mustang back from san francisco from 2 guys in two differnt new GT's....and the other day from a guy in a 65-66ish coupe.

every other type of stang and their driver seems more like its "just a car" and i think thats really pretty much what it is....anything between 73 and 05 isnt exactly in the league as the cars before and after that time period because during that time the mustang morphed into a totally differnt car/persona.....as did the average driver i think....

yeah u can yell at me and tell me fox bodies are the greatest ever and i know they are good performers but really...they dont have any connection emotionally or physically with a stang besides the nameplate and emblems....theres no emotional connection....same with the 94-04 bodies....they are a differnt car....not to say they arent great, but just differnt....the new stangs evoke an emotional connection with peoples past because if the body design and what not which is the basis of the connection you would experience with them.

I think the bigest thing to allot of them is its car. Now if you come up on one tricked out
the least bit then you get the thumbs up kinda like the bike crowed!

For some it's just a car and for others, well it's a passion and a part of their life.

the older ones are way easier to work on, these newer ones and are compacted together in an already cramped engine bay, well at least all of them 94 - 06, that have smaller hoods, which equals a smaller engine compartment. you cant compare buying a mustang and working on one yourself.
