3speed transmission
Ijust bougth a 1965 mustang with a 6 cly 200cin which has a 3 speed non-synchro transmission installed. everything works but i would like to have a synchro transmission foe easier driving so can this transmission be overhauled and make it a syncho-transmission? thanks Edward
If the car is original, you will have a 2.77 transmission.
The bad news:
The bell housing is specific to this transmission, and the transmission can not be converted to having a syncronized 1st gear.
The good news:
Installing a 5 speed is a one day project, at a cost of between $700.00 and $2,300.00 depending on what you do for the transmission itself.
A 5 speed will make the car feel like it's gained 75 horse power.
Good luck with what ever you decide.
Here is a shot of the T5 with the original '66 6 cylinder bell housing and the adaptor plate.
