Default engine question

Ok, This is a Chevy engine im talking about, but you'll help me out. It's still an engine. When i first got the truck, the engine wasn't running, but we got it running after awhile. It ran good, except, it needs a rebuild. Now, it seems to have lost all power. It'll rev up halfway ok, and the 4 barrel will kick in, but when you go and let the clucth out, it almost stalls, and it wouldn't even make it up a hill. I even floored it, and with the 4 barrels open, it'd almost stall. We believe it's the carburator. IT's like sucking alot of air when you rev it. So is that what you guys think it is?

How old and what is it? I would also check the timing and the exhaust for restriction. It only does that when there's a load on the engine?

sounds like a distributor problem. if it isnt tuned right it will hav little power flood often and will be hard to start. losten the distributor once the engine is running and give it a little twist. youl hear the engine act a little more livley once the distributor is in the right place.

I will raise my hand, as I have owned many GM cars. But, this is not a GM forum. Discussion of GM cars should be directed to the GM forums. This is a Ford Mustang Forum, a forum designed to discuss the Ford Mustangs. Not a comparitive site.
