burnouts
would a 302 do a strong burnout in a 72 mach one? thats what my mach one came with but it breaks em' loose so easy that i think that its either been built or the motors been swapped some time or other. what do ya'll think? the only visible mods. are headers and glass packs
Sure it would. If you hold the brakes and floor it, it will spin the tires no problem even stock. If its sick it will take a bit more but it can still be done. The 67 Cougar has a 289 2V with a C4 and 3.00 gears, it would spin easily like that.
It takes quite a bit more to spin them without holding the brakes, like having 275 60 15s on the rear and mashin the gas from idle at a dead stop. That takes some power to do, and most 302s wont do that. But they will spin like a 235 60 15 easily enough... if your tires are narrower than that, it should be a tire roastin toy!
It could have some upgrades in it, the only way to know for sure is to take it apart and look.

if the breaks dont work, a burnout doesnt work. also, if the brakes don't work, fix them, lol, its that simple. order a rebuild kit if necessary but I agree with Soaring, heck, don't even start the damn thing till the brakes work.
I gotta agree with not driving it if the brakes arent werkin..
Imagine if you will, three rounds into the Sunday eliminations, one more win and we are in the money. The pedal felt spongy at the end of the last run, but we lined up anyway. Do the burn out and pedal is on the floor, car still moves forward. Not a good feeling, but we are here lets do it right? Stage, lights come down, cut a good light, hit 2nd gear, 3rd gear, rpm sweeps to just over 6000 as we cross the line, other guy won, we broke out and lost.
So we are doing around 118mph and press the pedal. Nothing there, the car doesnt even think about slowing. Its an auto so we cant slip the clutch and use the gears as well to slow down. What to do, we are traveling really fast, no brakes. No park brake either, the cable didnt fit with the rear end swap so we left it off. Swayin the car side to side so the slicks scrub some speed off, down shift to 2nd and the engine screams over redline, put it back in 3rd, if it blows we are in big trouble now, there wont be any braking at all then. put it back in 2nd and its under 6k now, falling but not really fast, we can see the end of the track coming up fast. rpm drops low enough to put it in first and we finally get down to a speed where a turn is possible, a huge sweeping turn back towards the pits, going very slow and staying in first gear. Shut it off and coast thru the pits to the trailer using the trailer to stop it by rolling part way up on the ramps, then put it in park.
Get out head over and clean underwear. Be thankfull its an old WW2 B17 airstrip we race on, so there was enough room to be that stupid. It took me nearly a mile to slow enough and it was a scary ride for sure. Master cylinder seal went, so no pressure anymore.
Dont be stupid like I was, you will live longer.

the breaks in my 66 went out. its one of the scaries things ive ever delt with. luckley it was stick so i could easily downshift. i had a single master cylinder and it had a leak in it. watch those single master cylinders they didnt give me any warning
