Trunk paint..
If you take all the paint off the trunk panels in your car, you eventually get down to the original color. This apparently is not normal paint. Paint stripper does nothing to it. Is that stuff like anodized on?
i dont know but when i was trying to strip my trunk i had this "gunk" stuff like....rubberized undercoating type stuff...i dono if thats normal or very weird but it looks like it was sprayed all over the trunk then painted over....its very weird and seems like its going to be really hard to clean up........
Not sure about all the mfg's but back in the day most of them used the same exterior paint for the trunk. I know Mopar and Ford did.

You sure that's OEM?? I thought Ford (Like Mopar) used the same paint in the trunk as on the body.......

It's a co-polimer/rubber type paint to prevent rusting. Yes, it is normal. Not sure how to get it off other than sand blasting. Here is my trunk that is a normal 65 trunk from the factory.

The main body of the trunk, yes. But, in addition to the body paint, Ford used this gunk to spray in the wheel wells and inside the quarter panels over the body paint. Well, at least at the San Jose plant they did.
On my trunk there is an exterior paint which is like a super tough extremely textured paint. Im guessing its the rust prevention stuff your tralking about to. But that came right off with the stripper. Below that was red and green paint that my car was at one time painted, so obviosuly the black is not original. At the bottom is the original paint, Wimbledon White, and thats whats not coming off at all. Paint stripper kind of smudged it but thats all. When they painted the cars did they put them on a rotissure(SP?) and paint the whole thing like that?
Also, if your talking about the same gunk stuff shifty, I had that too. Every so often, especially towards the seat, there were big blobs of rubberized stuff. It was like silicone and the consistency of a soft eraser. I stripped it all off, but there was nothing under it like a crack or anything. My car has been in a rear end collision and I notice some silicone, perhaps someone just got alittle trigger happy?
Btw, once I have it all stripped done,Im priming it all and painting it myslef with semi flat black.I plain to have it all smooth and black except for my polished aluminum battery relocation box and my future diamond plate rear seat divider. How do oyu think that will look?
